I’m kinda pumped right now. Why you might ask? The new electro/dubstep duo Knife Party dropped their debut EP this Monday, and it hits hard in all the right places!
Let me give you a little background on this duo. Knife Party is composed of Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen from the Drum & Bass band Pendulum. They’ve been producing for a while with Pendulum, so these guys already know what they’re doing. You might have heard some of their remixes earlier this year – Unison by Porter Robinson, Save the World by Swedish House Mafia, and Crush On You by Nero.

If remixes don’t convince you, their EP “100% No Modern Talking” shows off what they’re capable of with originals. I have to say, I’m quite pleased with what they’ve released. Fire Hive is the one dubstep song on the EP, and I’m glad they’ve showed off a little of their dubstep side, because Fire Hive is heavy and has just the right amount of wobbles! Tourniquet isn’t my favorite track, but it has a great lighthearted mood for when you want want to rave hard and happily. Destroy Them With Lasers is a very interesting approach to electro. Instead of laying a heavy beat for an intro, Knife Party introduces a great sound. I’ve never heard it before and it sounds exactly like lasers, so if Knife Party continues making tracks like Destroy Them With Lasers, then they will get to be known for pushing the electro boundaries! Definitely a cool track. Lastly, Internet Friends. I remember the first time I heard a teaser for it on youtube I thought the woman robot voice was extremely funny and great for this track. Maybe that’s why it’s my favorite track from the EP, but the drop at 1:50 is simply amazing for headbanging.
In my opinion, Knife Party’s definitely a group to keep a look out for as they climb up in the EDM world! Enjoy their EP:
