Apocalypse Dreams – Tame Impala

Australian psych rockers Tame Impala released a new track this week, called “Apacolypse Dreams.” Singer Kevin Paker shows off the higher end of his vocal range in this one.  The guitars and synths are heavily affected and reverbed, but the song is held together by a solid bassline and Jay Watson’s steady drumming. Instead of getting lost in the mix, Parker’s spacey vocals become a distinct layer of sound. He cuts through without dominating.

Most of all though, this song is a jam. It’s nearly six minutes in length. There aren’t any solos, just waves of guitar and keyboard. They create the thick, luscious sound that Tame Impala does so well. It’s not a huge departure from their previous material, but it is a great song. Stream it below, or grab a free download over at the band’s website. It’ll be on their upcoming album Lonerism, set for release in December.
