Blackbird Blackbird (once known as Bye Bye Blackbird) is the name of a solo project of a talented vocalist and producer who stems from the Bay Area’s own Oakland. Blackbird Blackbird also goes by the name of Mikey Maramag. Blackbird Blackbird’s debut album Summer Heart was self-released back in July of 2010. His tracks are the epitome of dreamy inspirational sounds. Maramag is influenced by a wide and diverse spectrum of musical textures. He dabbles in soft, airy vocal harmonies and plays with wholesome instrumentals. His deeply hypnotic tracks pay homage to the name of psychedelic pop. He picks and snatches different sounds and beautifully transforms them into a musical collage.
It’s hard not to be carried away on cloud 9 when listening to the workings of Blackbird Blackbird. His multi-layered sounds are keeping me out of the doom gloom of a dark wintery Chicago wonderland. His track Tear from his EP Boracay Planet is an example of his clever combination of electronic and Indie-Rock. Especially now, Maramag has gained a bit more of a light and tropical sound with his new track New Leaf. I may be physically freezing my butt off, but with Blackbird Blackbird, I feel like the warm summer sun has arrived extra early.
