London DJ and producer BURNS is one electro-house act that has been pumping out quality tunes for years, but has recently garnered attention from the more mainstream side of electronic music. With remixes for Ladyhawke and Frankmusik becoming popular within days of their release, it’s clear that the world has taken notice of this DJ’s talents. Last year he wrapped up a US tour with Deadmau5 and is Calvin Harris’ usual choice as an opening DJ.
Recently I’ve felt like electro has started to slip into the same trap that Dubstep fell into (and will rise out of god willing). Producers focus solely on the idea of making their track ‘hard.’ While I love me some 4 to the floor that repeatedly kicks you in the balls, I feel like there’s been a serious decline in how electro is supposed to make you actually feel something. Ask most kids in the club what they like about a song and they’ll tell you something like “it was so hard, I loved that part where it went wobwobwob…” With BURNS, I’ve never felt this way. His tracks can pack just as much of a punch as any of the other electro artists we love, but they also have undeniable substance. From listening to his music it is clear that he has an intuitive feeling for crafting a haunting melody much in the same way as Crystal Castles do. He masterfully manipulates vocal samples and layers 80s-inspired synths. Check out some of his music below and I think you’ll agree that BURNS is an artist to keep an eye on. Be sure to support the artist by purchasing their music.
Make sure to catch BURNS at Identity Festival in Mountain View, CA on September 3rd. He will be performing on the Main stage.
