BURNS & NT89 [Traffic EP]

Everyone loves collaborations.  There’s something basically appealing about the idea that two of the artists that you love could be best buds together.  I know all of you secretly feel this way too. It absolutely warms my heart when I think about Boys Noize being friends with Mr. Oizo and the guys of Ra Ra Riot being homies with Vampire Weekend.  But the appeal of collaborations isn’t just a hipsterism induced ‘woah, that guy that no one’s ever heard of knows that other guy that no one’s ever heard of’ thing.  Just look at the Grammy’s where every performance is a boring collaboration between two over played artists.  In conclusion, no matter where on the hip to MTV spectrum your tastes lie, everyone likes collaborations.  Here is my new favorite: BURNS & NT89.

BURNS is one of the most versatile producers out there.  In the past he’s made tech-house, nu-disco, electro and house.  Well here’s another genre to add to that list — face-destroying techno.  NT89 on the other hand seems to be a strictly techno guy.  Like BURNS he has been consistently killing it all year too.  The EP features the original plus two fantastic remixes by Attaque and AutoKratz.

Attaque’s remix is probably my favorite track on the EP.  It’s a perfect mix of NT89′s and BURNS’ mastery on the original plus all the little signatures of Attaque’s production.  It has his tortured fog-horn synth sound and his lazer-like percussion — basically everything I love about Attaque.  It’s heavy and futuristic.  This is exactly the techno sound that is getting big right now.  Attaque is still just on the rise, but with this release I think it’s clear that we can expect him to be blowing up any minute now.

I was pleasantly surprised to see AutoKratz featured on this release.  The duo used to be one of my favorites when their Down and Out in Paris and London LP was popular.  Earlier this summer the guys released their second full-length.  Their remix is very electro inspired techno.  The production is driven, fast-paced and busy.  It’s a lot like the original, but with a lot more going on.  Altogether, AutoKratz took an awesome track and made an awesome remix out of it.

Mark my words (or watch me eat them), 2012 will be the year of techno.  Check out the remixes we have for you below and if it’s your thing, scoop the full EP up on Burns & NT89 – Traffic by Bad Life
