In the quirky comedy High Fidelity, washed-up record store owner Rob Gordon (John Cusack) explains that ”the making of a good compilation tape is a very subtle art. Many do’s and don’ts. First of all you’re using someone else’s poetry to express how you feel. This is a delicate thing.” While this is true in almost every case, it’s 4th of July. All we really want to do is grill, chill, swim, and drink – a perfect recipe for most mixtapes to succeed.

But just because we’ll always have the hazy memories of fireworks, sticky sweat, and pink lemonade doesn’t mean that quality should be overlooked. After searching around the Internet for my perfect soundtrack for today, I’ve found a couple that will even make Lady Liberty get down.
