Cherry Wine – Nas ft. Amy Winehouse

To Nas – and to most of us – Amy Winehouse’s passing was tragic, but her memory lives on through her music. His newest release “Cherry Wine” features that famously sultry voice lazily singing the hook (“Where is he?/ The man who was just like me/ I heard he was hiding somewhere I can’t see”). Their friendship was more than unlikely, but after an introduction by their shared producer Salaam Remy, they hit it off.

Luckily these two were able to do a track together amidst their busy lives and Winehouse’s sudden passing. While Nas stands out in the verses with his characteristically impressive flow, Winehouse flows with the music, as if she isn’t presently singing to you but more of a voice in Nas’ head as he prepares for the next verse. When Nas finishes with a bittersweet “Life is Good” – a reference to his upcoming album with the same title – all you can wonder is the depths Winehouse still had left to explore with her musical career.
