Cold Nites – How To Dress Well

How To Dress Well, the musical moniker for Brooklynite Tom Krell, is nestled somewhere between The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye), the trending artist of the month Frank Ocean, and Active Child. With his debut LP Love Remains, Krell carved out his own space in this R&B revival popularized by Ocean, Tesfaye, and even Passion Pit with their new single “Constant Conversations.”

Krell’s second single – “Cold Nites” – off of his upcoming sophomore effort Total Loss steps away from a masked, ethereal timbre, moving toward a crisper showcase of his elastic voice. Just as the title dictates, Krell forms a snowy blanket that envelops your being, leaving a hint of chill-induced goosebumps behind. The beat – co-produced by Krell, Forest Swords and Rodaidh McDonald – only adds to the icy quality with minor key minimalist piano.

How To Dress Well was first introduced to me through his song “Decisions,” and I still haven’t heard a song that tops that, but “Cold Nites” is the closest he’s come. Keep a close eye on Krell, he’s beginning to bloom in his evolution.
