Cornelius, A.K.A Keigo Oyamada, pulled inspiration for his name from a Planet of the Apes character. Nobody could have guessed from the calming nature of his music. When i hear tracks like ‘Point of View Point’ I don’t think of an oppressive society of intelligent apes, I think of endless rolling hills in the suburbs of Japan. That feeling is what sets Cornelius apart from other sample artists; his samples are most commonly extracted from everyday life (see ‘Drop’ for a clear example of this). Combined with some pure electronic noises and soothing vocals, you have an incredibly unique sound that manages to both take you to new places and make you feel right at home at the same time.
All of these tracks are off my favorite album of his, ‘Point’, because in my opinion it is his most defining and best collection of tracks. Be sure to check out Point of View Point – its brilliant.
