“There is old wave, there is new wave, and there is Bowie…”

- Thompson, Dave (2006). Hallo Spaceboy: The Rebirth of David Bowie

David Bowie is perhaps one of the most influential artists of all time. He has made 25 albums in a span of 46 years! He also evident in his music is his broad musical palette. He dabbled in glam rock, punk rock, psychedelia, funk, jazz, and electronica. In the words of music reviewer Brad Filicky, ”Bowie has become known as a musical chameleon, changing and dictating trends as much as he has altered his style to fit” and “Because he has succeeded in so many different styles of music, it is almost impossible to find a popular artist today that has not been influenced by David Bowie”.

By now, I’m sure that you get the idea. There is one point that I would like to hammer home. David Bowie was the seminal influence in electronica. The very genre that Metrojolt was founded upon!

Did I mention he was also a successful actor and producer. Or that he can play the electric, acoustic, and twelve-string guitar, alto, tenor and baritone saxophone, keyboards including piano, synthesizers and Mellotron, harmonica, Stylophone, xylophone, vibraphone, koto, drums and percussion, and string instruments including viola and cello.

Also I want to point something out about his track, The man who sold the world. It has been covered by many musical artists. Among these artists are Living Legends, Nirvana, and John Mellencamp. Think about that. A Rap group, the most influential grunge/metal group and a country/folk music legend all covered it with success. It speaks to my point that Bowie has footholds in almost every genre.

My personal favorite is Fame. Pure Funk!
