If you’re in need of a healthy injection of 1970s A.M. psychedelic rock music filled with bright harmonies and melodies, I think I might have a solid veteran band choice for you. Dr. Dog, a five core band created in 1999 in West Grove, Philadelphia, has been known for being the “most stubbornly stuck-in-their-way bands” of recent memory. But after releasing their first album, “Shame, Shame”, on their new label Anti-Records on April 6, 2010, I’d say that this album is the band’s most optimum creation yet.
With singles like “Shadow People” and “Where’d All the Time Go”, their recent album is one of the band’s most candidly autobiographical releases to date. “Shame, Shame” strips back the layers of strings and horns of past albums while bringing a new progressive sound to their music. Lead guitarist, Scott McMicken, has characterized the album as “more modern, and a little more punk rock, more prominently featuring electric guitars.”
Dr. Dog has just announced their tour dates, which begin with a three-day share with Bright Eyes in Rhode Island. The band’s record label recently stated their new album would be released in early 2012, though Dr. Dog is pleased to live on its own terms, it’s nice to see a veteran band pop out of their usual bubble.
