Gigamesh, otherwise known as Matt Masurka, is the DJ and producer that has put the Twin Cities on the map with his eclectic remixes and electro Pop. This Hype Machine star is both a low key and mainstream kind of guy. He started DJing as a hobby back in high school, but soon gave it up once he graduated. He sold his equipment to his older brother who later became known as DiscoTech. While studying music in college he dabbled in a few groups and mostly stayed away from Dance music. Later on, Masurka got drawn back into DJing by his brother. Soon after, he created his solo identity, Gigamesh. As Gigamesh, Masurka started getting more into the Indie-Rock side of things.
His career really hit a high note when he did a remix for Mike Posner’s Cooler Than Me. Mike Posner had just been signed by a major record label and he enjoyed Masurka’s remix so much that he began using it for live shows and it was eventually released as Posner’s single. Now, Masurka has been keeping off the more commercial stuff, but he still says,
I’m trying to exist in both worlds as much as possible.
Gigamesh’s music has definitely taken hold of the blog scene. His remixes are wide and varied and they all possess a uniquely fun quality. I’ve been crazy about remixed songs lately and Gigamesh is perfect for my recent obsession. He recently released a remix of Grouplove’s Tongue Tied and it almost has a kind of beach party feel. It’s definitely more Indie than what you would normally hear on the dance floor, but that doesn’t stop Gigamesh from turning it into something you can groove to. He defines himself as,

When Gigamesh puts his hands on a song, he fixes it into fun, upbeat, happy-go-lucky music. What’s not to like about that? While his original tracks are good too, his remixing skills are better developed in my opinion.
