It’s finally here! Since their Evolution Mixtape, we here at Metrojolt have been anxiously awaiting Jack Beats’ first in their mini-album series, Careless. The EP boasts a stellar lineup of collaborators, including Dillon Francis, Example, and Diplo.
The first thing I looked for in Careless was the signature Jack Beats UK wobble sound. Lo and behold, in every single track, we get that wondrously elusive wobble synth/bass that us producers have tried with no avail to mimic. Jack Beats have truly made this sound distinctly theirs, and because of this the collaborations on the EP are phenomenally fun to pick apart. In their collaboration with Dillon Francis entitled ‘Epidemic’, for example, we can distinctly hear the Jack Beats wobble bass in juxtaposition with Dillon Francis’ super saw style lead and moombahton sound. In ‘War’ with Diplo and Example, we get slightly less clear cut roles from each, but we still hear the individual parts – we get the signature Jack Beats wobble, the tribal influenced drum work from Diplo, and vocals from Example.
Collaborations aside, we get some fantastic originals that we’ve heard teasers of for awhile now like ‘Careless’ and ‘Hooligans’. My personal favorite on the EP is the title track ‘Careless’ – Takura’s voice complements the giant synth riff brilliantly and the entire track serves as a reminder that this UK duo can do no wrong.
