Jamie xx

Jamie Smith, real-time MPC drummer for the-Mercury-award-winning-xx, has adopted his band’s last name as his surname as he embarks on his solo career. Alongside contemporaries Four Tet, Burial, Joy Orbison, and Mount Kimbie (to name a few), Mr. xx represents some of the best the UK’s post-dubstep bedroom beat scene has to offer. Weaving together impossibly bare synth and bass elements with mutated vocal samples and sporadic, yet impeccably placed, drum patterns, Jamie’s music is the product of endless hours spent in dreary studios in the west of London. Expect big, big things from this guy, who’s now set to produce tracks for the upcoming Drake album (that’ll be interesting) and remixed an entire Gil Scott Heron album (in addition to remixing the likes of Nosaj Thing, Adele, Jack Peñate, and Glasser). Oh, and no promises, but there are also rumors of The xx recording with Swedish-electronica-pop masters, jj. I guess we could have seen that coming.

Jamie xx – Far Nearer
Glasser – Tremel (Jamie xx Remix)
Gil Scott Heron – NY Is Killing Me [Jamie XX Remix]
Jack Peñate – Pull My Heart Away (Jamie xx Remix)
Adele – Rolling In The Deep (Jamie xx Remix)
