Alright, it’s time we post about San Francisco native Jhameel. This UC Berkeley grad is making some uber pop-y music. Prince-inspired vocals are laid powerfully over funky rock guitar licks, thumping bass lines, simple piano progressions and upbeat drums with the occasional horn arrangement. I usually don’t dabble in this genre too much, but the content of Jhameel’s music is a lot less vapid and hell of a lot more interesting than other alternative pop musicians. I will be the first to say that Jhameel’s voice, when it’s overly manipulated by effects, loses a lot of its appeal. He is making some damn catchy music though, with the production giving off the perfect amount of danceability while retaining listenability.
Be sure to support Jhameel. He offers most of his discography up for free download on his website, but if you’ve got a few bucks to spare please donate ‘em so he can keep making quality music!
