Metrojolt Hour (#1) on KSDT [Radio] on Metrojolt

[info_box]Every Monday from 8-9 PM (PST), our Editor-in-Chief DJ will be DJ-ing an hour of music pulled mostly, if not entirely, from Metrojolt. You can tune in at KSDT Radio’s website or through Itunes (Radio->College/University->KSDT)[/info_box]

For my first ever radio appearance, I created a 50+ minute mix with plenty of goodies from Metrojolt. I entered the radio station with only my laptop and door PIN code number, and found an empty space consumed in darkness. I set up quickly, although I had to jog my memory on the basic working of the station, and started promptly at 8PM with “DJ DJ” by Zion I.

The first segment of the show was dedicated to underground hip-hop, with artists including Pete Philly, K.Flay, and Hocus Pocus. The second half of the show focused on that genre we call “indie”– with selections from Phantogram, Casiokids, and my favorite– Local Hero. I made a hasty transition from the break.

I received four calls during my hour: one from my sister Nicole, two from my friends Niko and Brock, and finally one from the mysterious “Aaron.” I had a feeling my first call with Nicole, who pretended to be an Indian woman, was being recorded but I was quickly told by several of my friends who were listening. Then Niko and Jake called, requesting Katy Perry for some odd reason. I didn’t hesitate, asking which tracks Niko wanted played, to which he responded “all of them.” Then Brock called, to inform me of what I already knew– that the calls were being broadcast– and also to request more mainstream shit from Katy Perry and Kanye, and more Katy Perry. Finally, Aaron called and after introducing himself, promptly hung up.
