There are ways to go hard without being all about going hard. Mr. Magnetik proved that with this new single. Remanence has a sort of visceral forward motion to it, which I love. It’s a groove you can imagine yourself barreling through the desert at 4am in a stolen Camaro to. To me this track has this manly, cowboy, kick-assness to it. It’s a sort of quality which makes guys like Skrillex look like whiny 7th graders in comparison. A lot of producers can pump out tracks that will knock you on your ass all day long. What’s different about how this track knocks you on your ass is its subtlety. Subtlety doesn’t seem to be something producers are rewarded too much for these days. In Remanence, Mr. Magnetik employs this constant synth pulse to carve out his chord progressions. The way he simply widens these synth stabs into gentle pulses is insane and gets me banging my head every time. I’m tired of producers putting all their energy into trying to make me shit my pants with how heavy their synths are. I want more tracks like Remanence.
