Modek – [The Brink EP]

We at the Metropolitan Jolt love Modek.  We’re not completely sure why.  It might have to do with how he pummels your eardrums into to submission with just one single grinding synth.  Phil and I spent last summer dropping his My Lady Don’t Mind remix in every set we got a chance to.  As we value full disclosure, it is worth noting that we also played his Money Shot remix in a lot of those sets too.  Yes, I know that playing two tracks from the same artist in one set is a bit of a DJing faux pas, but it was less about us as DJs and more about how Modek’s tracks inspire a certain sense of ‘I don’t give a fuck.’

Well it just so happens that our hero of indescribable thump released a new EP over the weekend.  The EP is out on one of my favorite labels, Belgium’s Lektroluv.  The Brink EP features 3 expectedly merciless tracks.  Modek has always been blending techno and electro, but this latest release shows him stepping a little closer to his label mates Mumbai Science, Sound of Stereo and as of a few days ago, Attaque (fuck yeah we love Attaque!).  Belgian dance music seems to be all about heaviness coupled with minimalism.  Check out the EP below and leave us a comment letting us know if you think it goes just as hard as we do.
