Help I’m Alive – Metric (The Twelves Remix)
When I need a little musical inspiration to put a little pep in my
step, I almost always turn to the Brazilian DJ duo The Twelves. Their
funky takes on some of my favorite tunes are sure to start an
impromptu dance party in just about any setting. To say their
upcoming set at Coachella is one of my most anticipated would be a
gross understatement.
When I’m looking for a quick surge of energy, I often throw on an electropop song, sending me into an abyss – not one of hell and fear, but one of endless floating and ecstasy. One such song is ceo’s “Come With Me”, blissfully serene but also jolting enough to keep me going. It’s the perfect blend of calm, soothing waves of sound and an unrelenting beat and bass line. The three minutes and fifty one seconds of “Come With Me” provide a quick escape from the world and a sudden feeling of rejuvenation, leaving me much more energized after.
Powerlines – Jump into the Gospel
This New York quartet sort of reminds me of a trio from their hometown, The Strokes. They’re an 1146 miles band to watch for in 2011.
Crystal Castles have bumped into a number of Copyright controversies in the past, but one thing stands true: they create awesome music. Based out of Toronto, the duo is known for chaotic live shows, and have released two albums to-date. This song comes off their first eponymous release in 2008.
This is the most-played song in my iTunes library for one reason: it is hands down the greatest song to run to, ever. (Actually there’s two reasons—the other being that it’s really stupidly excellent anyway.) With 129 BPM and a relentless four-to-the-floor kick pattern, it never fails pump me up and give me that extra push as I try to match my pace to the driving beat.
Horns & Bass – The Track Stars
This track is one of my cherished mp3s. It’s a rip from a very rare vinyl that’s no longer in production, and never made it to the digital world. I think it, along with a lot of ghetto-house music, epitomizes the theme ‘energize’. Its fast tempos and raw beats just make it ideal. I hope you enjoy it, and if it’s your first taste of ghetto-house, and you enjoy it, I urge you to go check out other producers like DJ Deeon, DJ Funk, and the modern guys like Addison Groove and DJ Rashad.
Favorite DJ Remix – The Game ft. Jim Jones/Clinton Sparks
For some reason this album seems to be getting passed on, but that’s hard to understand based on the list of featured artists (Lil Wayne/Jim Jones/Dre/KRS-1/Rick Ross/etc). Whatever the case, “Favorite DJ Remix” is a guilty pleasure, simply because the hook sounds like a bad club song–but I could care less because the verses (particularly Jim Jones) are insane. Think back to Joe Budden “Pump It Up,” did anyone care about the cheesy hook? No because the beat and verses were on fire!
Tricky Tricky (Days Off Remix) – Röyksopp
Energize.. That’s easy! It’s gotta be this stellar remix of Röyksopp’s “Tricky Tricky”. The build up is slow steady and it leads you to a climax that just makes you wanna throw your hands up in the air, smile and… dance! who cares if you’re at the supermarket?
Coyote Kisses – Starchaser
Trying to think up a song that gets me ENERGIZED, I realized there are many styles of music that could “energize” me. I didn’t think dubstep would work, it’s too demonic – though I guess that could be energizing in a way, but I thought it should probably be less demonic and more uplifting. So I went looking through music I’d love to rave to and Coyote Kisses was my first choice.
“Starchaser” wasn’t my first pick of songs to rage to by Coyote Kisses (you can see that here), but it reminded me of an energy drink (which I guess I closely associate to energy) – probably because I’ve been watching David Cross’s The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret recently. Anyways, this shit will get you PUMPED – plus, I think Starchaser is a good name for an energy drink.
Hold On – Rusko Ft Amber Coffman (Sub Focus Remix)
This song has been on repeat for me all week. It’s good to get you engized for everything. I play it in the car, during my morning shower and just any time I need some energy. Rusko is coming to Oakland April 14th and I can’t wait. Enjoy.

For the life of me, I can’t figure out why I wrote trio, that’s not right. Oh, well… good list everyone.
