One Mo’ Gin – D’Angelo

D’Angelo, why are you so damn smooth? In honor of his recent comeback, including his first U.S. appearance in around 12 years with ?uestlove at this year’s Bonnaroo, I thought it would be fitting to honor his greatness with a post on Metrojolt. “One Mo’ Gin” is off of his 2000 classic Voodoo. The groove stays slow and steady, leaving just enough space for layers and layers of D’Angelo’s god-given pipes. The harmonies are perfect, fluttering in and out of his gorgeous falsetto. Even the “yeeah’s” and “oohs” make me quiver – just a little.

So what if he gained a little weight and went off the deep end for a few years? He’s still one of the most unbelievably talented vocalists of our time, and I can’t wait to hear what he’s been cooking up in his absence. In the mean time, enjoy “One Mo’ Gin”; this is baby makin’ music.
