Outside Lands Mix, Part 10: The Limousines [Interview]
0

Background:

The Limousines are a glimmery, upbeat-yet-foulmouthed indie pop group out of the San Francisco Bay Area. They released their first full-length album, Get Sharp, just over a year ago, and have been attracting some major attention thanks to two big, synth-laden singles; “Internet Killed the Video Star” and “Very Busy People”. The latter has enjoyed massive radio success and has helped the band gain both local and nation-wide recognition. While there are no official plans for a new album, I think we can expect big things from the Limousines in the years to come. They’ll be jamming out this Friday at the Outside Lands Music Festival in Golden Gate Park. Be sure to catch them at the Panhandle Solar stage at 6:15.

The Metropolitan Jolt was lucky enough to grab a quick interview with Eric Victorino, the lead singer and songwriter for the Limousines. Here’s what Eric had to say about groping, spit bubbles and travelling with Mormons.

Interview:

Is playing Outside Lands special for you since you’re based in the Bay Area?

Yeah, I mean it’s cool to play there as someone who has gone before. I sometimes think of us as more of a one-off festival band. Right now we’re just hanging out and working on a couple secret projects, then playing at these festivals.

What’s the story behind the mouth bubbles on the Get Sharp cover?

They’re gross, aren’t they? We tried to get something sexual that also had a gross aspect. Kinda walk that line. We wanted something that would get a reaction when you looked at it.

Could you talk about a crazy on-stage experience you guys have had?

There’s a lot of groping at our shows. People in the audience like to go for the crotch-grab. Not at the bigger shows, but at the smaller ones when they’re all at dick level. It used to weird me out. I’m not really a person who likes to be touched by strangers, but I’ve gotten used to it. Now it’s not really a problem. As long as it’s not a security guard.

You guys toured with Neon Trees for a while, right?

Yeah we only toured with them for 4 weeks, but it was fun. They’re Mormons, which is a bit weird on the road ‘cause we talk a lot about fucking and girls and stuff.

They’re Mormons? Really? So I guess no crotch grabs for them…

Yeah I think they’re not as into the crotch grabs.

You guys have played with some interesting people lately.

Yeah, but here’s the thing: we could be at a festival with a band and be playing 300 feet away from them and technically we’ve played with them. “Playing with someone” is kind of a loose term these days.

You guys don’t have all that much officially released material. Do you have any crazy covers you like to play live?

You know it’s funny you should say that. We’ve been working on some new covers. I think we’re gonna play a Paul Simon song on Friday.  That’s something we’ve been working on for a little while.

Everyone always assumes that playing live shows for fans is incredible. When you’re touring and you find yourself playing the same songs regularly, does it ever start to feel old?

Not really. We actually haven’t played that many shows. I’d imagine for some people it does get old, but not for us. We’re not really the kind of band that goes out on big tours for months.

What can we expect from you guys down the line?

It’s all secret. Lots of secrets.

If you could tell your fans one thing, what would it be?

The snozberries taste like snozberries.[/one_half_last]
