Next Friday, RJD2 is spinning four turntables (!?) in SF at 103 Harriet in San Francisco with none other than Metrojolt’s most-posted-about artist Zion I. It’s a 21+ show, a case in point to why I need to purchase a fake ID. Tickets can be bought here for 20 pesos…I mean dollars.
RJD2 is what I’d call triphop music– a mixture of electronic instrumentals, hip hop snares/kick drums, and ambient sounds that can’t quite be placed. His tracks are smooth and relaxed, but engaging. You can listen to his tracks alone while relaxing, or put them on at your kickit while sparking meaningful conversations. One thing that is constant throughout all his work is the high level of production; don’t expect to find any glitches or inconsistencies in his songs because they flow seamlessly. If you listen to hip hop, you’ll recognize some of these beats because they’ve been used by other artists (MF Doom being one of them). I’m partial to his first album Deadringer, but I suggest you explore his other albums.
