Skream

One of the fathers of dubstep, Oliver Jones grew up working at a record store in Croydon, England. This particular record store was the center of the early Dubstep scene when Jones was a teenager. Influenced by the music around him (in the music store and surrounding area), Skream began to produce Dubstep at the young age of 15. Dropping out of school at 16, he decided he wanted to produce music for the rest of his life and never looked back. Now, at age 24, he has produced an amazing number of songs, is a part of the supergroup Magnetic Man, and remains one of the biggest names in the Dubstep world.

Skream helped Dubstep get noticed by adding more melody to the wobbling bassline and cut time tempo that defines Dubstep. In this way, he is credited with playing an important role in developing Dubstep as a genre.

Skream dabbles in different types of dubstep, ranging from harder stuff (check out the All Night remix) to more melodic and chill songs (In For The Kill remix). Although I can’t say I adore every single track by Skream, some of his tracks are amazing and he is a very talented producer. Definitely an artist to follow on SoundCloud and Facebook to check out his new stuff. I’d love to go see him live.

Enjoy some of Skream’s originals and remixes:

Rutten – Skream

All Night – Jack Beats (Skream Remix)

In For The Kill (Skream’s Let’s Get Ravey Remix) – La Roux

Where You Should Be – Skream Ft. Sam Frank

Shot Yourself In The Foot Again (Extended Mix) – Skream

Night By Night (Skream Remix) – Chromeo
