Styles P- Hoody Season

If you consider yourself a fan of Hip Hop and you haven’t heard at least a guest verse by Styles P, you are seriously slacking. Since the mid-90’s, the Phantom has been doing his thing in the booth, both solo and with the NY-based group, The LOX and with the D-Block Hip Hop collective. Although Styles P has been around for quite a while, the last few years have really been looking up for the Yonkers emcee who has put down some noteworthy (sometimes even show stealing) features for the likes of Rick Ross and Curren$y. His most recent project, The World’s Most Hardest MC, dropped just a few weeks ago (Novembr 13th) and managed to prove true to the title’s claim: Styles P has essentially some of the hardest bars in the game right now. ‘Hoody Season’ provides a nice little sampler for the folks that don’t know.

There are not too many bells and whistles on the production, just a basic loop and an uncomplicated kick rhythm for the Phantom to decimate shit over.  Simply put, Styles P sounds ferocious on tracks like this:

Keep it G like the alphabet, uppercase,

You a rat or a pig? Stay the fuck away,

All I know is four kilos is a buck a day

Listen more than you talk, but fuck what a sucka say

Rhymes like this really showcase the Ghost’s impeccable bar symmetry, placing each rhyme perfectly on beat. There are not many current artists that even know how to flow with the structured and technical style of lyricism that SP has essentially mastered, putting himself in a dying breed of the elite lyricist.

If you’re feeling Styles P’s hard-hitting bars on this, cop The World’s Most Hardest MC here.  For those of us who enjoy NY lyricism at its finest, this will be a worthwhile pick-up.
