Never mind what Tyler and Earl are doing, Hodgy is releasing tracks and EPs left and right. His most recent endeavor with fellow Odd Future member Domo Genesis – called Mellowhigh – is “Timbs” produced by the 20-year-old prodigy Lex Luger (Waka Flocka Flame, Snoop Dogg, Wale, Jay-Z and Kanye West).
Hodgy never skimps on production quality, the snare hits are crisp and the beat fat. After Hodgy’s introduction of Mellowhigh, Domo rips through a verse aimlessly dissing the entire rap game (“Class act, don’t even chat with these rap faggots”). Following Hodgy’s love for these ambling verse songs, he finishes the track with his own verse, hyping himself up. The problem with Odd Future is everyone in the group feels a sense of entitlement because of their wild success. They’re kids riding the wave of their more talented friends, having the resources and name behind them to spread their music across the internet. The track isn’t a failure – it’s definitely a quality listen – but Hodgy and Domo aren’t going to be changing the game any time soon.
