After looking through the Metrojolt archives, I was a little surprised to find that there wasn’t a post on Anton Zaslavski, otherwise known as the young but talented Zedd. Definitely one of my favorite producers, Zedd has shown the EDM world that he’s here to stay and is only getting more creative. With over 20 remixes and original tracks, this young 21 year old artist has only begun to show his production skills in the world of electronic music. Don’t believe me? Well check this out. For a good 4 solid weeks, his single Dovregguben held the #1 spot in Beatport charts. Now that’s talent.
Zedd’s musical talent didn’t start with electronic music. At a young age (around 4 years old) he started playing the piano in a family of talented musicians. These musicians continued to push him to master the piano and afterwards, he moved onto his next instrument, the drums. Determined, Zedd continued to play the drums in his band’s studio where he started to produce numerous rock songs. You can tell in the composition of his music that the combination of the drum’s rhythm and the piano’s melody led to his unique style of production. It’s almost as if its not just about putting a bunch of instruments together for Zedd, but rather its how those instruments work together to form a complete song; one that has a beginning, a middle, and a definite end. Recently, it’s this simple combination and form that many electronic producers aren’t doing. However, when Zedd does it, he takes Beatport remix competitions by storm such as the Strictly Rhythm Remix Contest for Armand Van Helden and the Skint Remix Contest for Fatboy Slim.
From here, Zedd proceeded to remix numerous top artists such as Black Eyed Peas, Skrillex, P. Diddy and Swedish House Mafia which were released on huge labels such as EMI, Atlantic and Interscope. He also appeared on Beatport’s live stream with Porter Robinson last July and showed his mixing ability on the Native Instruments Traktor S4.
At the end of 2011, Zedd began to destroy EDM fan’s eardrums with his recent productions. Tracks released on the OWLSA label such as Shave It and Stars Come Out immediately put Zedd in the eyes of multiple music blogs all across the country. Shave It was even remixed by some of the biggest electronic producers out there today such as Kaskade and Tommy Trash. His newest track, Slam The Door, may not be the most creative track that he’s produced but it can still get the party going without fail. Zedd also produced a Dubstep track called Scorpion Move, where he skillfully kept his own unique melodic style of production, while giving the world a grimy Dubstep track. Look here for our post on Scorpion Move.
But we can’t forget that Zedd is still a fun-loving producer. His Legend of Zelda track keeps the fun of the Zelda games alive, while still being one of the best tracks to increase the energy at concerts. I swear every time someone hears that familiar riff from the video game, they can’t help but smile I’ll post it below, so do yourself a favor and give it a solid listen, then relive your childhood and play some Zelda. Don’t take Zedd lightly, because you’ll be seeing his name a lot this year. In fact, if you’re going to Coachella, check him out on Sunday, April 15th and the 22nd!
